Coming: Treated water project for irrigation purposes

The Soil and Water Conservation Department in association with the district administration is going to start a project, under which treated water would be supplied to farmers for irrigation purposes.

Under the project, which would cost around Rs 11.4 crore, treated water would be released from the Sewage Treatment Plant, Piplanwala, which would cater to irrigation needs of farmers of seven villages — Piplanwala, Purhiran, Bassi Daulat Khan, Singriwala, Kurangana, Pandori Rukman and Maruli Brahmana.

Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait on Thursday said the irrigation project had already been chalked out and shortly the work of underground drainage would be started. She said the project would immensely benefit farmers of these villages as they would get an adequate quantity of treated water for their fields besides curbing the unnecessary pollution caused due to ill-managed utilisation of sewerage water.

Meanwhile, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer Naresh Gupta said Rs 9.71 crore had already been received for this irrigation project.
