Several trade unions, farmers, labourers and employees protested against the Central Government in Hoshiarpur and its surrounding areas today on the Bharat Bandh call given by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha. Effigies of the Central Government were burnt by protesters. Farmer organisations held protest dharnas on roads heading to Hoshiarpur city like at Naloyan Chowk, Tanda bypass, Purhiran bypass, Prabhat Chowk, Chandigarh bypass and Hoshiarpur-Una Marg among others.

Following the bandh call, all markets, shops and other establishments remained closed in Hoshiarpur. Traffic on roads was minimum. Passengers faced problems in commuting as they couldn’t find any mode of transport. People going to weddings and other functions also faced problems.

Shops that were open were closed after the intervention of farmer organisations. Markets wore a deserted look. Farmer leaders said, “The Central Government is anti-farmers and labourers. It is suppressing farmers who are protesting peacefully. Barricading done by the Khattar government on the Punjab and Haryana border has proved that the Central Government is completely ignoring Punjab. The most important issue is the MSP of crops which the government has failed to solve.”
