Computer teachers to hold protest in Dasuya today

Computer teachers, along with the Democratic Teachers,’ Front (DTF) organised a special meeting in Hoshiarpur on Thursday. A large number of teachers from across the district participated in the meet, condemning the injustices faced by computer teachers under the Punjab government. During the meeting, it was announced that a massive protest will be held in Dasuya on Friday.

The DTF leaders accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of adopting “dictatorial policies” and failing to meet with them despite numerous requests. They said that their colleagues have been on a hunger strike in Sangrur since September 1 but their demands were ignored. Their colleague Johnny Singla began a fast-unto-death on December 22, which continues to date.

They said that this is the first time in Punjab’s history that an organisation has taken its struggle to such extreme lengths, yet no government representative has come forward to listen to their grievances. The computer teachers clarified that their fight is not for the regularisation of their services, as their services were regularised in 2011 by the then Punjab government under the “PICTS Society”.

However, successive governments, including the current AAP government, have stripped away their benefits instead of restoring their rightful entitlements. They announced that in tomorrow’s action, teachers from across the district will gather in large numbers to raise their voices in support of computer teachers.
