A crucial meeting of the Computer Adhyapak Sangharsh Committee, Hoshiarpur district unit, was held under the leadership of District Leader Vishal Binny, where discussions focused on the upcoming protest rally by computer teachers in Ludhiana on Thursday, June 5.

State and district committee members, including Raghubir Singh, Raman Vashisht, Shuminder Kaur, Ranjit Singh, Kamal Mahi, Narinder Sharma, Pardeep Kumar Babehali, Gurdeep Chand, Sumit Dutta, and Narinder Kumar, informed that despite completing 20 years of service and receiving a favourable ruling from the Punjab High Court’s double bench on February 25, 6640 computer teachers remain deprived of their legitimate rights.

They highlighted that the Education Minister’s announcement on September 15, 2022, has not been acted upon. To date, Punjab Civil Service Rules have not been applied to computer teachers, nor has the Sixth Pay Commission been implemented.

Moreover, families of 107 computer teachers who have passed away have not received any financial assistance, and four retired teachers have left without receiving their dues after serving for 58 years.

The government’s decision to merge computer teachers with the education department has not been implemented due to bureaucratic resistance. This ongoing delay has sparked massive protests among computer teachers state-wide. The committee members condemned the lack of action on the political decision, calling it an affront to democracy.

In light of the government’s indifference and its failure to honour the Education Minister’s promises, the Sangharsh Committee has decided to hold a major rally in Ludhiana on June 5. Computer teachers from across Punjab, along with their families, will march from the DC office to the office of MLA candidate Sanjeev Kumar Arora, demanding their rights.

The rally will also see participation from teacher organisations, employee federations, student groups, farmers, labour organisations, and other public bodies.

The committee made it clear that if their demands are not met within the given timeframe, they will escalate their protest, including surrounding every minister during the Ludhiana by-election. The responsibility for any such action, they said, will fall squarely on the state government and the concerned department.
