The Punjab Congress kicked off its campaign for the Jalandhar parliamentary bypoll from Shahkot on Monday.

Former PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi are, however, yet to join the campaign. Though Sidhu has met Dalit leader Mohinder Kaypee, Avtar Henry and even visited the house of Chaudhary Santokh Singh’s widow Karamjit Kaur, he is yet to be seen on stage with senior leaders of the party such as PPCC chief Raja Warring and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa.

“Sidhu has been critically targeting the Bhagwant Mann-led government. Now, it is for the party leadership to decide which leaders will be entrusted with the responsibility of taking on AAP in the Jalandhar bypoll,” said a close associate of Sidhu.

Party sources said Channi was expected to be present when party candidate Karamjit Kaur filed her nomination papers.
