Cong receives 113 applications for MC elections in Jalandhar
The Congress has started receiving applications for tickets to contest the forthcoming Municipal Corporation elections at the Congress Bhawan here, with nearly 115 people having applied.
District Congress Committee chief Rajinder Beri had announced that the 84 applications received earlier along with the application fee few months ago would be reconsidered again this time and that the workers did not need to apply afresh. Now, nearly 29 new candidates have also applied, taking the total number to 113. Among those who applied afresh were ex-councillors Lakhbir S Bajwa, Vipan Kumar and Amandeep Kaur.
Likewise, the AAP, too, continues to receive applications for the second day on Wednesday. Party leaders Steven Kler and Amritpal Singh took forms from nearly 100 more applicants today. The party now has roughly 400 applications for 85 wards.
Among the fresh applicants were ex-councillors Jagdish Samrai, Deepak Sharda, Om Parkash and Mintu Juneja. All four have been councillors with the Congress party earlier.
The BJP, too, has started receiving application forms at the party office near Shitla Mata Mandir.
BJP co-incharge of the elections KD Bhandari said, “We have already received over 300 applications from the candidates. Many wards have four applicants.”
