Senior Congress leaders, including Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, on Sunday accused the BJP-led Central Government of securing power through fake votes and called on party cadres to begin preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections.

Speaking at a district-level meeting of party workers at Ashish Continental in Phagwara, the leaders alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had exposed how the Election Commission, allegedly influenced by the BJP, manipulated voter rolls to help the ruling party.

They urged party workers to identify fake voters in their respective areas and report such cases to the party.

Emphasising the importance of early election preparations, the leaders directed the party cadres to focus on strengthening booth-level structures and mobilising grassroots support.

The meeting was presided over by MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal and attended by prominent figures such as Dr Jasleen Sethi, Observer Phagwara; Sushil Malhotra, Observer Ludhiana; Taranjit Singh Walia, Block President Phagwara; and Purshotam, Coordinator Ludhiana, among others.

The speakers reminded workers of the Congress party’s historical legacy in the country’s freedom struggle, asserting that no other party had the same record of sacrifice and patriotism.

They also highlighted welfare-driven policies introduced by previous Congress governments, such as MGNREGA, Aadhaar, and the Right to Information Act, arguing that these initiatives had benefitted millions and stood the test of time.

Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress leaders also criticized AAP leader Manish Sisodia for his controversial statement advocating the use of “Sam, Dhaam, Dand” to win elections, describing it as a reflection of AAP’s anti-people ideology.

Concluding the meeting, the Congress leadership urged workers to focus on the party’s cause without expectations of personal gain or positions and to launch ground-level campaigns immediately. They emphasised that consistent and united efforts would be crucial in making Congress the most successful party in the 2027 Assembly elections.
