Congress leaders and workers in the Nakodar constituency have expressed serious concern over what they describe as increasing harassment and unlawful actions by the local police and administration.

The statement was made during an emergency meeting led by Dr Navjot Singh Dahiya, Congress In-Charge for Nakoder Assembly Constituency.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr Dahiya criticised the authorities, stating, “Police and Administration exist to serve the people, not to kneel on their necks. Claiming that the Government is above the law is an insult to our courts.” He highlighted cases where even minor scuffles have resulted in criminal cases being filed under Section 307 IPC against Congress office-bearers and workers.

The meeting also cited instances where Panchayats trying to reclaim or vacate their own land faced false theft complaints and party workers were repeatedly called to police stations without cause and subjected to mental harassment. Notices issued by the BDO office, allegedly based on fabricated complaints, were described as another method of targeting Congress leaders. Despite approaching the High Court for relief, party representatives said police and administrative authorities have ignored court directives.

In response, the meeting resolved to launch a series of protests. A sit-in demonstration (dharna) is scheduled in front of the DSP Nakodar’s office on Thursday, September 25, at 11.00 am, with plans to extend the protest to the MLA’s residence if authorities fail to provide a satisfactory response. Congress leaders emphasised that the movement will continue until “justice is achieved.”

The leaders also condemned statements by police officials claiming “the Government is bigger than the SSP and the law,” calling such remarks an affront to the rule of law. Dr Dahiya reiterated, “We will not tolerate these excesses. Until the police and administration stop their unlawful actions, our protests will intensify.” Repeated attempts to contact DSP Nakodar were unsuccessful.
