Congress revokes suspension of Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary

The Congress on Monday revoked the suspension of Phillaur Congress MLA Vikramjit S Chaudhary.

Chaudhary was taken back into party folds at 'Save the Constitution' rally of the Congress in Dakha Assembly segment near Ludhiana. Chaudhary was placed under suspension in April 2024, a month ahead of the Parliamentary polls when he and his mother, Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, sought a ticket to contest the Jalandhar LS election.

Since the party had announced the ticket for ex-chief minister Charanjit S. Channi, Chaudhary had issued several statements against his candidature.

At that juncture, the Congress had suspended him for anti-party activities. His mother had then joined the BJP and supported its candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku.

Channi had won the Jalandhar MP polls with a thumping margin.

The revocation of Vikramjit's suspension is being seen as an aftermath of the rejoining of Kamaljit Karwal and Karan Warring during the ongoing Ludhiana West elections through Channi, election in-charge Rana Gurjeet Singh, and party candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu.

PPCC chief Raja Warring had objected to their joining since the duo had reportedly worked against his Lok Sabha election in Ludhiana last year.

A similar kind of a comeback of Chaudhary, who is close to the other camp of Warring and Bajwa, is being seen as a tit-for-tat. The move is set to lead to the widening of the rift between the two opposing camps.

In April, Warring, Bajwa, and Capt Sandeep Sandhu had organised a rally in Sultanpur Lodhi in favour of ex-MLA Navtej Cheema, leading to much annoyance to Independent MLA Rana Inder Partap and his father, Rana Gurjeet Singh.
