Contraband recovered in Kapurthala Central Jail, warder arrested
Multiple arrests under NDPS Act across district
In a major development at the Kapurthala Central Jail, the authorities recovered a mobile phone, cash and a wallet allegedly stolen by a jail warder, along with 12 grams of narcotic substance, following an internal inquiry initiated by the Assistant Superintendent.
The incident came to light when Head Warder Dimpa Sharma, on duty on the morning shift yesterday, returned to her room and found the lock broken. A mobile phone and purse containing money were missing, prompting her to immediately file a complaint with the Superintendent.
Acting on the report, Line Officer Narinderpal Singh and Assistant Superintendent reached the hostel premises and inspected the site. During questioning, Warder Sadhwinder Singh admitted to committing the theft and revealed the location where he had hidden the stolen items. Officials recovered the stolen purse and mobile phone from the spot indicated. A subsequent search of his room led to the seizure of a sachet containing a 12 grams of narcotic substance, wrapped in polythene, leading to registration of a case under Sections 22, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act. The accused was arrested and further investigation initiated into the matter.
In another case, the police arrested Jalandhar Singh, a resident of Dialpur, presently living in Lakhan Ke Padda village in Kapurthala district. The arrest followed his interception by a police patrol party while he was coming from Lakhan Ke Padda village. A search of the accused resulted in the recovery of 80 loose intoxicating capsules. A was registered against the accused.
In the third case reported near a bus stand adjoining Rathda Puja, a police team apprehended a youth identified as Ravi Kumar, alias Ravi, a resident of Khanpur village in Kapurthala district. From his possession, the police recovered 50 orange-coloured, unmarked intoxicating pills. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the accused.
