The agenda for the Finance and Contracts Committee meeting scheduled for June 25 morning in the MC Jalandhar office has been finalised and circulated to all members.
The members, including Mayor Vaneet Dhir, Senior Deputy Mayor Balbir Dhillon, Deputy Mayor Malkit Singh, councillors Kavita Seth and Hitesh Grewal, will finalise the contracts for development works to the tune of Rs 6.5 crore at a meeting.
The main contract to be awarded is regarding the repair and maintenance of 631 tubewells in the city areas for the next one year. The tenders for the work had been floated in Vidhan Sabha segment-wise. An estimated cost of Rs 69.85 lakh is expected to be incurred on the operation and maintenance of 182 tubewells in Jalandhar North, Rs 69.76 lakh on the upkeep of 104 tubewells in Jalandhar Cantonment, Rs 61.47 lakh for 166 tubewells in Jalandhar Central and Rs 70.03 lakh for 179 tubewells in Jalandhar West.
The other works to be finalised include construction of facilities like shed, interlocking tiles under the shed, security room and wash room at the Wariana garbage dump for an estimated amount of Rs 44.93 lakh. The MC is also planning re-development of footpath from BMC Chowk to Samra Chowk for Rs 88.95 lakh, construction of toilets for Rs 97.28 lakh, laying of interlocking tiles at Dhilwan for Rs 18.45 lakh, road patch work in Jalandhar North for Rs 9.78 lakh and purchase of submersible pump set for Rs 34.25 lakh.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party Jalandhar Central halqa Incharge Nitin Kohli held a meeting with the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, Commissioner Gautam Jain, councillors, block presidents, ward in-charges and officers from various departments to discuss issues, affecting localities falling in Jalandhar Central. Jain issued instructions to all MC officials that all projects must be completed within set deadlines. The Mayor emphasised the need to accelerate construction, repair, and maintenance-related tasks, especially in areas that have seen consistent delays.
Kohli stated, “This was not just a routine meeting but a commitment to perform. People should not only hear promises, but also see visible work on the ground.” Among those present were Dheeraj Seth, Tarun Sikka, Lagan Deep Singh, Parveen Pehlwan, Balbir Singh Tutt, Happy Warring, Tarandeep Sunny, Manmohan Raju, Love Robin, Ganga Devi, Kartik Sahota, Sonu Chadda, Ajay Chopra, Vijay Vasan, Nikhil Arora, Gurpreet Kaur, Jatin Gulati, Manish Sharma, Ashok Sabharwal, Manjeet Rawat, Harsh Kumar, and Rajiv Gill. Each representative shared detailed updates on issues within their wards and submitted priority lists for necessary action.
