Jalandhar, February 5

A convention by a forum formed against the CAA/NRC/NPR was held at the Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall here on Wednesday.

Called Forum Against Fascist Attacks – the convention called upon people to participate in a rally being organised against the CAA in Ludhiana on February 25.

Speaking on the occasion, activists said the Citizenship Amendment Act was the first law which was drafted based on religion and caste. It is against the basic spirit of the Indian Constitution. It has also given way to a divisive discourse which is targeting minorities, Muslims, Dalits, labourers, adivasis, among others.

They said like demonetization, a large number of people will be forced to stand in lines to give proof of their citizenship if the law is passed.

They said the NRC implemented in Assam was the example of this where 4 lakh Muslims and more than 14 lakh Hindus couldn’t prove their citizenship.

They said shooting incident by a youth at Jamia Milia Islamia University protests, among others, were results of speeches and statements which were provoking people against those protesting against the CAA.

Comrade Manohar Singh Gill, Hans Raj Pabwan, Charanjit Singh Thammuwal, CPI (ML) New Democracy state leader Ajmer Singh, RMPI leader Kulwant Singh Sandhu, CPI’s Prithipal Singh, Jamhoori Adhikar Jathebandi leader Mulana Anwar Amritsari and Dr Jaswinder Singh Bhogal addressed the gathering.
