Phagwara, March 18
As per the orders and suggestions of the government to observe the universities shut until March 31, due to coronavirus (covid-19) scare; Lovely Professional University (LPU) has taken innovative steps for continuing uninterrupted teaching.
LPU has started virtual classes for students to attend these from their homes or hostels. In addition, entry to LPU campus is only after proper, needed temperature and allied check-ups. All classrooms, faculty and staff rooms, cabins and furniture are being sanitised as per the requirement.
LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal shares: “Trying to beat this period of non-teaching, we have chosen to take classes online for sometime where all teachers will continue teaching through online lectures, presentations and video calls.”
Mittal adds: “Many of the final year students have also to join their placement companies. As the semester ends in May 2020, the lapse of anytime will be a loss for students, in regard to their trainings, skills enhancements and placements thereof. Thus, we have opted for this mode.”
In fact, to serve such a purpose, the university has its own an all-purpose chat app ‘LPU Live’. It empowers communication, collaboration and engagement all on a single platform. LPU students, parents and staff members can stay connected with the university, and never miss important discussions. This App is just equal to ‘WhatsApp’ functioning, and has also been integrated with online University Management System (UMS). The App can be used across all platforms-Mobile (iOS, Android), Desktop (Windows, MacOS) and Web.
Some of the features of this ‘App’ include group messaging and private chat; advanced search; unlimited chat history; real-time push notifications; one-to-one or group ‘Audio-Video’ calling; screen sharing; file sharing and more.
Mittal also informs: “We have advised all students to download this app — LPU Live — and the university online system. Through this messaging system of the university, students will be automatically enrolled once they download the app.”
“The teachers will share their lecture and notes as well as give assignments through this system. Students can also submit their assignments back on the university online system, where faculty members, too, have access.” added MIttal
