The Kapurthala administration on Tuesday issued an advisory, asking people to stay away from rivers and embankments.

The advisory comes after cracks surfaced in the main dhusi bundh along the Beas between Lakh Warian and Passan Kadim villages in Sultanpur Lodhi.

Several houses at Nawa Pind Patthe, Shahpur Peera and Preeti Nagar caved in due to incessant rain.

Meanwhile, the water flow in the Beas river continued to remain above 2 lakh cusecs.

The water level in both Chitti and Kali Bein also increased due to outflow from seasonal rivulets in Hoshiarpur. Floodgates of the Kanjli wetland were opened to prevent accumulation of water.

Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said the safety of people and property was their top priority due to which the advisory was issued.
