Two-day remand for rape accused
Hoshiarpur: The Sadar police have arrested a man on the charge of raping a seven-year-old student of Class IV. He was produced in a court and remanded to two-day police custody. The accused is father of two children. According to information, a seven- year-old migrant girl was raped by accused Sarvanjit Singh, alias Nannu (31), a resident of Nangal Shaheedan, when her family members were not at home. The accused came on a bike to the victim’s house and took her to the fields. The accused left her home after raping her and ran away. When her parents returned home the victim informed them about the incident following that she was admitted to a hospital. Inspector Kamlesh Kumari, investigating officer (IO), said the accused had been booked under Sections 376 AB of the IPC and 506 of the POCSO Act. The IO said after medical examination the swab of the girl has been sent for chemical examination to Kharar laboratory. OC
Cong councillor’s son held for firing at youth
Hoshiarpur: The Model Town police have arrested a Congress woman councillor’s son for firing at a youth over alleged corporation elections rivalry. The police have booked the woman councillor, her two sons, daughter and son-in-law under the charge of attempt to murder. The victim, Manpreet, alias Mamu, told the police that he was going to return his friend’s vehicle. Meanwhile, he was called by Naveen, son of area councillor Chandravati, on the pretext of some work. When he reached there the accused and his brother Ganesh, sister Kanti, her husband and councillor Chadravati, were standing there. Naveen fired three shots at him and he fell down. Accused Naveen along with his brother Ganesh and brother-in-law attacked him and injured him. The victim was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali. Investigation officer Hans Raj said on the basis of the complaint, Naveen Kumar has been arrested under Sections 307, 323, 148 and 149 of the IPC and 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. The police have recovered the pistol used in the firing. The accused will be produced in the court on Saturday, the police said. OC
Protesters booked for blocking traffic
Hoshiarpur: After firing at a youth by son of a municipal councillor, relatives of the injured youth demonstrated against the functioning of the police at Rahimpur Chowk and blocked the traffic. The police have registered a case on the complaint of ASI Gurdeep Singh against 12 persons and several other unidentified persons. The police said the protesters ignored the orders of the District Magistrate, which caused a lot of inconvenience to the passersby, especially the patients. On the complaint of the police officer, Bhajan Kaur, Naina, Rodu, Pappu, all resident Fatehgarh; Chandan, Lucky, Jatinder Bholu, all residents of Rahimpur; Ghansham, Dimple, alias Dimpy, Rocky, Neeraj, Ram Kali and Baljit Kaur, all residents of Sunder Nagar, were booked and a case under Sections 283, 188 and 271 of IPC has been registered against them.
Two duped of Rs 41.59 lakh
Hoshiarpur: The district police have booked three persons, including a couple, for allegedly duping two persons of Rs 41.59 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad. According to information, Sarwan Lal, a resident of Chauhal, in his complaint to the Sadar police said that for sending his son Gaurav to Canada on PR visa, Jaswant Kaur alias Tamanna Sharma, a resident of Bathinda Road, Zira, and her husband Rakesh Kumar, alias Bunty, allegedly took Rs 35 lakh from him but after that they neither sent his son to Canada and nor did they return the money. In another case, Harpreet Singh, a resident of Shivalik Enclave, in his complaint to the Sadar police said that for sending his wife to England, Navdeep Kumar, a resident of Tagore Nagar in Jalandhar allegedly took Rs 6.59 lakh from him but he neither sent his wife abroad nor returned the money.OC
One held with pistol, bullets
Hoshiarpur: During a naka in the area, the Dasuya police seized a 7.65 mm Italian pistol and seven bullets from bike rider near Jangala village. The accused has been identified as Khun Khun Sarki village resident Baljinder Singh, alias Kalu. The police have impounded the vehicle of the accused. OC
Two held with drugs, liquor
Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested two persons, including a woman, and seized narcotics and liquor from them. According to information, the Dasuya police arrested Habil Kumar, alias Bitta, a resident of Keharwali, and seized 30 gm of intoxicating powder from him, while the Tanda police seized 40 bottles of liquor from Krishna, a resident of Tanda.
