CT Group holds flower show

Jalandhar: The Department of Agriculture, CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur campus, organised a flower show in which Government Senior Secondary School, Kadiawal; Government Senior Secondary School, Jandiala; Lovely Professional University; Innocent Hearts Group and CT Maqsudan participated. There were 101 registrations in different categories like fresh flower arrangement, dry flower arrangement, cut flowers, flower ornaments, bonsai, succulents and flower grower in pot etc. The show was inaugurated by CT Group co-chairperson Parminder Kaur Channi, managing director Manbir Singh and Dr Rubina Gill, Department of Agriculture head, along with faculty and other campus officials. In flower pots, the first prize was bagged by Rajwinder Kaur, Assistant Commissioner, Ludhiana, whereas the second prize was bagged by Onkardeep. The first prize in fresh flower arrangement was bagged by Araph Gautam, while Karanveer Kaur stood second.

World Day of Social Justice

Jalandhar: The United Nations’ World Day of Social Justice was observed at Eklavya School. A special assembly was organised on the occasion. Nikita, a Class V student, delivered a speech informing the significance of this day. Videos were shown to the students about social justice. Students wrote slogans to spread awareness in the society and they also made mind map on different social evils. Principal Arvinder Kaur said that “Knowledge without justice ought to be called cunning rather than wisdom”.

International Mother Language Day

Jalandhar: The PG Punjabi Department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated International Mother Language Day. The department organised competition in poetry recitation. Around 30 students recited self-written poems and poems of renowned poets depicting love for our mother language. The judges of the competition were Dr Harpreet Kaur and Dr Mandeep Kaur. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen told the students about the importance of our mother language Punjabi. Head of Department Navroop Kaur encouraged the students to read Punjabi literature for their holistic growth. In-charge Punjabi Sahit Sabha Kuljit Kaur told the students about the historical background of International Mother Language Day. Simran of BCom got the first prize, followed by Republin and Maneesha. Veena Arora and Satinder Kaur, Associate Professors, Punjabi, were also present.

Lecture on public speaking

Jalandhar: An expert lecture on ‘public speaking’ was organised at DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology. Sharad Manocha, Associate Professor in English, DAV College, was the resource person. Principal Manoj Kumar emphasised the fact that though the engineering professionals are proficient in their domain but they lacked presentational skills that were much-needed. Sharad Manocha presented the idea that oratory skill can be nurtured by practice and learning. With better communication skills, we are able to touch emotional cord of people. He also discussed some dynamics of public speaking like one should be always prepared before going to stage, take pauses, use short sentences, avoid using clichés, slangs and proverbs, use right and perfect quotes, use wit and humour to avoid monotony, use verified facts, let the audience feel involved and avoid eye-trap while delivering speech on stage. He gave examples of famous people and great orators like Winston Churchill, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Barack Obama.

‘Applauds 2020’

Jalandhar: Applauds 2020, an event to confer different titles to pre-primary students according to their talents and behaviour, was organised at MGN Public School, Adarsh Nagar. Some of the titles were ‘Rising Star’, ‘Unconditional Helper’, ‘Spick and Span’, ‘Immaculate Icon’ and ‘Courteous Personality’ etc. The children were observed throughout the year and awarded accordingly. A musical skit was performed by tiny tots that carried a beautiful message ‘Don’t pluck flowers.’ Pre-primary in-charge Sukham, headmistress Sangeeta Bhatia and vice-principal Gurjeet Singh appreciated all the students. Principal KS Randhawa requested the students to reduce their screen time including TV and cell phones and increase their play time in the parks.

Seminar on women’s legal rights

Jalandhar: DAV College organised a seminar on health awareness and legal rights of women. Making the students aware, resource person Ashu Randev said, “A woman cannot be arrested after the sun sets and before the sun rises. In a particular case, this is possible only on the orders of a first class magistrate. In any case if the accused is a woman, then any medical examination process done on her should be done by a woman or in the presence of another woman.” She also informed about the right against domestic violence on women. Dr Manjula Singal said, “Women face more malnutrition than any other health problem. This can cause tiredness, weakness, disability and bad health. Women must be health conscious and in their daily life, adopt balanced diet, exercise and yoga to stay healthy. TNS
