Earlier in February this year, Tawar, a native of Noida, had also clinched a gold medal in the same category at the National Games held in Uttarakhand. He has been on a gold-winning spree since 2022-23 in the country, emerging victorious in all tournaments of the Wushu Federation, All-India University Games and various other national events.
Competing in the Sanda style, which involves punches, kicks and throws to overpower the opponent, Tawar—an MBA second-year student—shared that he has been professionally practising the sport for four years. “I train for 7-8 hours a day, including three hours in the morning and three in the evening.
In the afternoon, I also do stretching exercises. Eggs, non-veg food and a wholesome diet are part of my daily routine,” he said.
Tawar comes from a family of sportspersons. “My grandfather was a wrestler with the Indian Railways team. My father was into running. I too started with running but shifted to Wushu four years back,” he added.
Managing Director Dr Manbir Singh congratulated Abhishek for his dedication and success. He remarked, “Achievements like this not only make the group proud but also inspire countless young students to dream big and work hard. Abhishek has shown that with determination and the right guidance, international milestones can be achieved.”
Special appreciation was also extended to Davinder Singh, Group Director of CT Group and Gurdeep Singh, Head of Sports Department, for their constant support, mentorship, and encouragement, which played a key role in nurturing Abhishek’s talent and preparing him for the global stage.
Sharing his feelings, Abhishek Tawar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Group and mentors.
He said, “Winning a silver medal for my country has indeed been a proud moment. The guidance of my coaches and the support from the institution have been instrumental in my journey. This achievement motivates me to aim for gold in the future.”
