A surge in cybercriminal activity has raised serious concerns, with scammers now impersonating Police Commissioner (CP) Swapan Sharma. A fraudulent Facebook profile has been created under her name, aimed at misleading and deceiving the gullible residents.

The fake account is being used to send messages to various residents seeking financial help, following which, the police authorities issued a strong warning, clarifying the issue that this Facebook ID was entirely fake and being exploited for fraudulent activities.

“We are taking legal action to track down the perpetrators,” said officials of the Police Department.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first instance of cyber thugs targeting Sharma. A similar fake profile was used in the past to deceive residents in Ludhiana with scam messages. In the wake of the incident, the city police have urged the public to remain vigilant.

“Do not trust any suspicious messages from unknown sources. If you encounter anything like this, immediately report it to the authorities concerned,” said a police spokesperson.
