Jalandhar, February 29
A cycling expedition was organised to commemorate the platinum jubilee of the Vajra Corps. Teams of various formations of the Corps participated in the expedition. Each team comprised five personnel, led by an officer. The teams commenced their journey from various military stations under the jurisdiction of the Vajra Corps.
The water and soil of Punjab is sacred to Vajra Corps which is bestowed with the responsibility of being ‘Defenders of Punjab’. On the occasion of platinum jubilee celebrations, the cycling expedition was planned with the aim to collect the soil and water of ‘War Memorials’ and major rivers in the ‘Vajra Corps’ area of responsibility.
The route of the expedition was planned as an outreach to connect with veterans and next of kin of the gallant martyrs, who are part of the extended Vajra Corps fraternity.
The ‘flag in’ ceremony was held on February 28 in Jalandhar Cantonment, where Major General Balwinder Singh, Chief of Staff, Vajra Corps, interacted with team members and felicitated them for their yeoman service of paying homage to martyrs. The water and soil collected by the team will be offered at Vajra Shaurya Sthal as a mark of tribute to all martyrs during ‘Wreath Laying Ceremony’ to be held on March 1.
