The city is grappling with a surge in thefts, snatchings, and robberies, raising serious concerns over the law-and-order situation. In a brazen daylight robbery today, robbers struck at Imperial Medical Hall, a prominent store located right in front of the municipal corporation office at the busy Company Bagh Chowk.

Two robbers posing as customers entered the medical store today afternoon and brandished sharp weapons, terrifying the staff and the owner. The robbers looted

Rs 40,000 in cash while customers witnessed the alarming incident unfold.

While describing the ordeal, Jivesh, the store owner, said one robber wielded a sharp weapon, while the other appeared to be carrying a firearm. Faced with life-threatening situation, Jivesh let the robbers take money from the cash counter without any resistance.

After receiving information about the incident, the police from Division Number 4 reached the spot. The CCTV installed inside the shop wasn’t working. So, footage of the incident couldn’t be captured. The police said they were now scrutinising footage of surrounding surveillance cameras to identify the suspects, who were wearing kurtas and hiding their faces with a handkerchief.

Hardev Singh, SHO, Division Number 4, said a case based on Jivesh’s statement was registered under relevant sections of the BNS. He said the police were actively pursuing leads to apprehend the culprits.

Meanwhile, this broad daylight robbery that too in a crowded market has created panic amongst shopkeepers, who have demanded the security measures enhanced be enhanced. Traders said such incidents were becoming common and they feared for their safety. They said the commissionerate police need to act tough against anti-social elements to curb the crime.
