Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal on Friday directed officials to expedite the ongoing Smart City projects in Sultanpur Lodhi, warning that delays in the development of the sacred town would not be tolerated.

During a field visit to inspect multiple projects, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed key works including infrastructure upgrades at Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk, Talwandi Bridge, the local bus stand and the road leading to Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib. He also assessed the progress of a new administrative complex being built to centralise government services for citizens.

Emphasising the need to minimise inconvenience to residents and pilgrims, Panchal instructed senior officials to personally monitor all projects and submit weekly progress reports to ensure timely completion.

“The holy city of Sultanpur Lodhi holds great religious and historical significance. There is no room for complacency in its development,” the DC said.

Panchal also issued directions to the Municipal Council and the Public Works Department (PWD) to immediately repair or reconstruct roads where pipeline or construction work has concluded, to avoid prolonged inconvenience to the public.

Progress was also noted in the area of water and sanitation. Approximately 3,500 new household water connections are being facilitated with the laying of a 28-kilometer pipeline. A 1.4-kilometer sewer line has also been laid, and a 1 MLD (million litres per day) capacity sewage treatment plant has successfully completed its trial run, with full commissioning expected soon.

In preparation for the upcoming monsoon season, the Sewerage Board has completed an 18.5-kilometer storm sewer network to mitigate waterlogging problems in low-lying areas.

Additionally, the DC noted that the construction of a girls’ school under the Smart City Mission is nearing completion, which he described as a significant step forward in improving the town’s educational infrastructure.

Deputy Commissioner Panchal was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Navneet Kaur Bal, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Alka Kalia, and other senior officials during the inspection.
