DC leads inspection of ongoing link road construction in Phagwara

Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, various teams inspected the ongoing construction and strengthening of link roads being carried out by the Punjab Government across the district.

Deputy Commissioner Panchal reviewed the work on the Hardaspura–Phagwara link road and obtained detailed updates from Public Works Department (PWD) officials regarding the status of road construction, renovation, and strengthening projects in different parts of the district. He visited sites to assess progress and emphasised that joint teams comprising PWD and Punjab Mandi Board officials, under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), are conducting regular inspections of newly constructed roads.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that road construction is progressing at a war-footing pace under the supervision of the PWD and Mandi Board. “To ensure timely completion and quality maintenance, inspection teams are continuously monitoring road works,” he said, adding, “Link roads are our lifeline and any negligence in their construction or strengthening will not be tolerated.” He noted that all construction is being carried out in accordance with government guidelines and departmental standards.

To further ensure quality, monitoring committees have been constituted at the sub-divisional level. In rural areas, SDMs will head these committees, which will include officials from the PWD, Punjab Mandi Board, and Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs). In urban areas, Municipal Commissioners will head the committees, with Executive Officers of Municipal Councils as members. These committees have been instructed to submit weekly progress reports to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

During the inspection, ADC (Development) Varinderpal Singh Bajwa visited the road work near Gurdwara Taween Sahib on the Kapurthala–Kalasanghia road, while SDM Bhulath Devi Goel and PWD Executive Engineer Vishal Jangral inspected the Nadala–Bhulath road project.
