She stated this while inspecting the causeway of Mahingrowal Choe (rain drain) at Bhagowal village adjoining Takhani and Basi Wahid villages here on Thursday. Hoshiarpur SDM Preetinder Singh Bains accompanied her. The DC inspected some of places affected by the floods last year. She said the purpose of her visit was to get robust flood protection works done at these places.

She said all concrete arrangements were made by the district administration to deal with a possible flood situation. She instructed the officials of the Public Works and Drainage Departments to immediately take action to repair the causeway damaged due to water. While the district administration was continuously making efforts to provide relief or help to people during a flood situation, steps are also being taken to save the crops of farmers during a flood situation.

While inspecting the flood protection works at Mahingrowal choe adjoining Basi Wahid village, the DC instructed the officials of the Drainage Department to ensure that the flood water does not enter the village. She instructed the SDMs to make concrete arrangements to deal with a flood-like situation in their subdivisions. The officials concerned were asked to carry out flood protection works with utmost seriousness. She asked the SDMs and the officials of the Drainage Department to work in coordination.

Komal Mittal appealed to the residents of the district to be cautious and said they should stay away from the dams, rivers, canals, ravines, choes and low-lying areas. People belonging to the Gujjar community were urged to keep their animals away from these areas. She said due to constant rain, the levels of water in choes and rivers increase considerably. She said it has been observed that some people take animals to choes and rivers for bathing and sometimes they gather around flowing water and make videos which sometimes lead to a difficult situation. She has instructed the SDMs and officials of the Drainage Department to select the affected villages as well as immediately inspect the dhussi bandhs.
