In a bid to achieve zero stubble burning this harvest season, Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amit Kumar Panchal has directed officials of the Agriculture Department to intensify efforts and significantly reduce such incidents compared to the previous year.

Chairing a meeting with agriculture officers at the District Administrative Complex to review stubble management strategies, the DC instructed Cluster Officers stationed at the village level to proactively identify hotspot areas and organise awareness camps at both village and block levels. Farmers must be made aware of the environmental and health hazards associated with crop residue burning, he said.

Panchal stressed the importance of engaging directly with farmers before the harvesting season begins. He urged officials to promote the use of subsidised agricultural machinery provided by the Punjab Government for in-situ management of paddy straw, allowing farmers to manage crop residue within their fields without resorting to burning.
