Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal today appealed to residents to make purchases with restraint and thoughtfulness. He urged people not to indulge in panic buying. He assured that, as per the directions of the Punjab Government, the district administration stands firmly with the people to handle any kind of emergency situation.

Dr Aggarwal emphasised that there is no need for people to panic or fear. He said during emergencies, the Punjab Government ensures all forms of support and assistance to the public. He assured that the Jalandhar administration is fully prepared to deal with any such situation.

The Deputy Commissioner made it clear that hoarding of essential commodities or any other items will not be tolerated. He added that anyone found guilty of hoarding or black marketing will face strict legal action. He also directed the DFSC to maintain strict vigilance against hoarding and to prepare a list of those purchasing in bulk with ill intent, to be shared with the administration.

Additionally, Dr Aggarwal appealed to the residents to take future mock drills seriously. He informed that such drills will be conducted for a short period. During blackout drills, lights and traffic signals will be turned off. He urged residents to switch off inverters and generators at home or ensure no light escapes through windows or doors. Unnecessary travel should be avoided and any vehicle on roads should stop with their lights off.

Dr Aggarwal instructed that even if sirens are heard without any prior announcement of a mock drill, the residents should immediately follow practiced safety protocols. He advised residents to ignore rumours and follow all government advisories strictly. Strict action will be taken against anyone spreading false information, he added.

Store managers were instructed not to sell items in bulk to individuals and to encourage customers to buy only what is necessary. Regular announcements are also being made at stores urging people to shop responsibly.
