The district police have registered three cases against six accused on the alleged charges of cheating Rs 32,30,362 including embezzlement in a government department. According to the information received, Executive Engineer, Water Supply and Sanitation Division 2, Gurpreet Singh Virdi has lodged a complaint with the Model Town police station. He said that listed contractor Amandeep Kumar, outsourced computer operator Shiv Kumar and clerk Baldev Singh working in his office have allegedly embezzled Rs 5,80,362 from consumers by making fake receipt books in the year 2020.

In another case, Santokh Pal, a resident of Phuglana, told the Mehtiana police that Gurdev Singh, a resident of his village, along with his sister Jaswinder Kaur, had allegedly cheated him of Rs 7,50,000 in the name of selling a house.

In yet another case, Jagjit Singh, a resident of Kalyanpur, has lodged a complaint with the Tanda police. He said that travel agent Prem Singh, a resident of Cholang, had allegedly cheated him of Rs 19 lakh in the name of sending his grandson Vikramjit to America. The police have registered all the cases and further investigation is in progress.
