With the onset of monsoon season and a subsequent rise in mosquito-borne diseases, the Health Department has intensified efforts to curb the spread of dengue in the district. In the presence of Civil Surgeon Dr Harpal Singh, a special awareness poster was officially released today as part of the ongoing “Dengue Te Vaar” (Attack on dengue) campaign, which is observed every Friday.

This initiative, guided by Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh, aims to engage the public at the grassroots level through village health and sanitation committees (VHSCs), which have been formally integrated into the awareness mission. The campaign is designed not only to inform, but also empower local communities to take preventive action against dengue.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Harpal Singh said, “Our goal is to make every citizen a stakeholder in the fight against dengue. Prevention begins with awareness and timely action. Simple measures like avoiding water stagnation and maintaining cleanliness can drastically reduce mosquito breeding.”

The Civil Surgeon also appealed to residents to routinely check their surroundings for stagnant water and keep water storage containers clean and covered.

Prominent health officials present on the occasion included Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Anu Sharma, District Health Officer Dr Rajeev Prasher, District Immunisation Officer Dr Randeep Singh, Deputy District Health Officer Moninder Kaur, District Epidemiologist Dr Nandika Khullar, Dr Bhraminder Bains, Deputy Mass Media Officers Sharandeep Singh and Sukhdayal Singh, and Superintendent Ram Avtar, among others.
