Dhanpreet takes charge as city’s first woman police commissioner
In a proud moment for Jalandhar, Dhanpreet Kaur today assumed charge as the city’s first woman Police Commissioner.
A 2006-batch officer, Kaur was previously serving as Inspector General (IG) of Ludhiana Range before being appointed to lead the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police.
Upon taking charge, she was accorded a guard of honour by Punjab Police personnel. She then toured the Police Commissionerate complex and held a meeting with senior officers, including GOs and those of SP and ACP rank. Discussions centred on directives from the DGP and the state government, particularly focusing on crime prevention and a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
Addressing the media, Kaur outlined her key priorities, placing a strong emphasis on combating the drug menace in the city. She vowed to crack down on drug availability while also ensuring a focus on de-addiction and rehabilitation programmes. She also highlighted the need to curb street crimes such as snatching, which directly impacted public safety.
Kaur stressed the importance of a strong police-public partnership and expressed her commitment to improving Jalandhar’s traffic management. She acknowledged the effective campaigns initiated by her predecessor Swapan Sharma and pledged to build on them. She further said law and order in the city would be strengthened, with enhanced surveillance through Smart City cameras and improved control room operations.
Public grievances, especially those related to fraudulent agents and other crimes, will be given the top priority, she said. Urging citizens to cooperate with the police, Kaur emphasised that collective efforts would lead to better policing and a safer environment for Jalandhar.
