Due to the spread of diarrhoea in Bhim Nagar, the Health Department, Hoshiarpur, organised a medical camp in the area for the second day on Tuesday. A team of doctors examined the patients suffering from diarrhoea in the area and gave them medicines.
Doctors provide tips
- Civil Surgeon Dr Pawan Kumar Shagotra appealed to the people not to panic. He said in case of diarrhoea, ORS intake should be started immediately at short intervals. Drink boiled water, avoid eating outside, and cook food only after washing hands thoroughly with soap. In case of illness, no one should self-treat but contact the nearest health centre as soon as possible. All medicines are available in sufficient quantity at the health centres and all patients are being treated free of charge.
Multi-purpose health workers, ANM, Asha workers and volunteer teams of the Health Department conducted a door-to-door survey in Bhim Nagar and distributed chlorine tablets and ORS packets. They shared extensive information with the patients about preparing ORS solution for the prevention and treatment of diarrhoea.
Civil Surgeon Dr Pawan Kumar Shagotra said nine stool samples were taken by the team, out of which four patients were found cholera positive. They are undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital and their condition is stable.
Dr Shagotra said a meeting was held with Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal regarding the diarrhoea outbreak. As per the guidelines received by the DC, he visited Bhim Nagar area along with Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amandeep Kaur and Assistant Commissioner Sandeep Tiwari and reviewed the ongoing activities. The municipal corporation also provided alternative drinking water supply for the residents of the locality for the second day.
