Phagwara, March 23

As the administration has imposed indefinite curfew in the region suddenly at 1pm on Monday without any relaxation till now, hundreds of commuters had to face tough time as no vehicle was being allowed to cross the ‘Toll plaza’ at Ladhowal neither from Ludhiana nor from Phillaur side.

Several commuters were seen indulged in arguments with the cops deployed at the toll plaza. However, Phagwara, Phillaur, Nakodar, Nurmahal, Apra, Banga, Bilga witnessed deserted look on Monday. Several Shopkeepers were confused after sudden imposition of curfew. People were seen running towards several groceries or chemist shops.

When contacted, Phagwara SDM Gurwinder Singh Johal told The Tribune today that three wine shop owners, and one fast food owner who opened their shops during curfew were warned and left unbooked, while one pizza house owner was booked under Section 88 of the CrPC.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Deepti Uppal and Senior Superintendent of the Police Satinder Singh said the curfew was imposed for the benefit of the people. They claimed that all shops and other establishments would remain closed and the Civil and Police administration would monitor the situation.

When asked about relaxation, the DC Uppal said: “The administration will decide about it after monitoring the situation, adding that all Control rooms are working effectively in district Kapurthala.” The DC said as many as 4,200 persons have returned from abroad recently who had been advised for home quarantine.
