Two Jalandhar schools are set to represent the district and Punjab at the upcoming 52nd National Children’s Science Exhibition, which will be held in Bhopal from November 18 to 23.
The selected participants, Ujjwal, a Class IX student from Government Senior Secondary School, Nurpur and Nidhi Sharma from School of Eminence, Ladowali Road, earned their spots with impressive models on “Food, Health & Hygiene” and “Solid Waste Management”, respectively. Their models were adjudged among the top entries at the State Level Science Exhibition held in Amritsar last year, where over 300 students participated.
According to District Coordinator Principal Sukhdev Lal Babbar and Assistant Coordinator Harjit Kumar Bawa, the two students were among the top 13 participants who delivered outstanding performances at the state level.
District Education Officer Dr Gurinderjit Kaur expressed pride over the achievement, saying, “It is a matter of great honour that two students from our district have been selected for the national-level event. Credit goes to the parents and guide teachers Priyanka and Amandeep Kaur, as well as Principals Yogesh Kumar and Anita Sharma for their guidance and support.” Deputy District Education Officer Rajiv Joshi also extended best wishes to the students for the national exhibition.
Nidhi Sharma’s model, guided by Amandeep Kaur, science mistress, School of Eminence, focuses on solid waste management, highlighting innovative reuse and recycling techniques. “Solid waste is a huge problem,” Amandeep said. “Nidhi’s model offers practical solutions by demonstrating composting, plastic reuse in road and brick making and creative crafts using plastic and paper waste. At our school, all bio-waste is composted and students are encouraged to reuse materials innovatively.”
Ujjwal’s model, mentored by Priyanka, science mistress, Government Senior Secondary School, Nurpur, focuses on food, health and hygiene. “Our model uses games and electric circuits to educate students about nutrition,” Priyanka explained. “It includes a quiz that teaches healthy versus unhealthy food habits and a ‘match the column’ game linking nutrients with related deficiencies — with LEDs lighting up for correct answers. The display also promotes the benefits of millets and super seeds, featuring a balanced diet food pyramid comparing good and bad foods.”
With their creative, science-based solutions addressing key social and environmental issues, the two young innovators will now showcase Punjab’s talent at the National Children’s Science Exhibition in Bhopal.
