District Judge reviews situation at Sutlej embankment

District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Priya Sood, visited the Sutlej river embankment near village Tajowal on Friday afternoon to assess the situation in flood-affected areas and extend assistance to local residents.

During the visit, Judge Sood interacted with villagers and officials of the district administration to take stock of the prevailing conditions. She was accompanied by Dr Amandeep, CJM-cum-Secretary, DLSA; Mahesh Kumar, CJM; along with members of the DLSA core team.

In response to demands raised by the village Sarpanch through para-legal volunteers, the DLSA provided essential supplies including tarpaulins, electric wires, drinking water bottles, diesel for vehicles, floodlights and batteries.

Judge Sood stated that the initiative was carried out in accordance with the directions of Hon’ble Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman of Punjab State Legal Services Authority, as well as the instructions of the Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority. She further informed that special teams have been formed at the block level under the DLSA to provide comprehensive support to affected areas and families.

District Judge flags off relief vans

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), in collaboration with judicial officers of the Jalandhar Sessions Division, has initiated a comprehensive flood relief operation. On Friday, Nirbhow Singh Gill, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the DLSA, flagged off three vans to distribute essential relief materials to flood-affected communities.

The event was attended by all Additional Sessions Judges, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrates, and Rahul Kumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of DLSA, Jalandhar.

The relief teams, led by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, along with Harsimranjit Kaur, SDJM Nakodar, Tarunpreet Singh, Mahema Bhuler (both Civil Judges, Nakodar), and Lal Vishwas, SDM Nakodar, as well as bar members of the Nakodar Bar Association, visited flood-stricken villages, including Bir Baloki, Uddowal, Lohgarh, and Vehra in Nakodar. The teams distributed essential relief items to the affected residents.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate confirmed that the relief efforts would continue in the coming days. The relief packages provided included ration kits, tarpaulins, sanitary pads, slippers, and other essential items to help families cope with the devastation caused by the recent floods.
