Drama festival marks martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev
Several organisations like Naujawan Bharat Sabha, Kirti Kisan Union, Pendu Mazdoor Union Punjab, Punjab Students Union, Democratic Teachers Front, Democratic Employees Federation and Istri Jagriti Manch organised a special function and drama festival at Dasmesh Park, Lohian Khas, in Jalandhar today. The function was dedicated to the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
During the event, the theme on which drama was based was the ‘anti-worker, farmer, student, employee and shopkeeper policies’ of the Modi government. The play ‘Bharat O Bharat’ was performed and choreographed by the Manavta Kala Manch Nagar.
Addressing the gathering, state president of the Pendu Mazdoor Union Tarsem Peter and state leader of Democratic Teacher Front Master Kulwinder Josan said that the martyrs were expecting something from us and ‘we should get together to fight against the looting of the workers’.
“Today, the Modi government is continuously carrying out economic attacks on the farmers. They are bringing pro-corporate laws to snatch land from farmers and employment from workers. The AAP government of Punjab is working as the B team of the BJP as it arrested farm leaders along with farmers after forcibly ending the dharna. The union strongly condemns the same,” the speaker said. He said that the state government was trying to suppress the struggle of farmers, labourers, students, employees and shopkeepers.
The leaders said that, “This will be the true tributes to martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their martyrdom day,” they said. On this occasion, PSU state press secretary Mangaljit Pandori, district president of Rural Workers Union Hans Raj Pabwan, district leader of Naujawan Bharat Sabha Sonu Arora addressed the gathering.
Tributes were paid to India's great revolutionaries - Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev - who laid down their lives for the country's freedom. The event, held in front of the Model Town crematorium, was organised by the joint action committee to remind the younger generation of the sacrifices made for India's independence.
Chairman Varinder Malik, president Jaswinder Singh Sahni and Col Amrik Singh highlighted the significance of the martyrs' supreme sacrifice, describing it as an unparalleled contribution to the nation's freedom struggle.
Several dignitaries, including councillor Aruna Arora, trustee of Jalandhar Improvement Trust Atamprakash Singh Bablu, Aam Aadmi Party leader Lucky Oberoi, councillor Balraj Thakur and others attended the event. Local residents also gathered to pay their respects.
