The Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), Nawanshahr, organised a drug awareness camp at Government Senior Secondary School, Liddar Kalan, as part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’. The initiative aimed to educate students on the dangers of substance abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The session was presided over by School In-charge Amrik Singh. Addressing the students, IRCA Project Director Chaman Singh stressed the importance of early awareness and timely prevention in combating drug addiction.

“Effective de-addiction efforts involve awareness programmes, counselling and continuous support to help individuals break free from drug dependency,” he said.

Singh underlined the need for school-based interventions that focus on education, motivation and rehabilitation, helping students build resilience and reduce the risk of substance abuse.

“You are just as happy as you make up your mind to be,” he added, highlighting the crucial link between mental wellbeing and lifestyle choices.

Amrik Singh thanked the Red Cross team for their efforts, noting the session had a positive impact on the students and staff alike.

Also present at the camp were Peer Educator Parvesh Kumar (IRCA), along with school staff members Amanjot Kaur, Talwinder Singh, Sandeep Singh, Varinder Singh, Ashok Kumar and Kulwinder Kaur. A large number of students actively participated in the session.

The camp is part of a broader outreach by the Red Cross Society to engage youth and raise awareness about the perils of substance abuse through education and community involvement.
