The city police arrested a drug smuggler and recovered 200 grams of heroin, a pistol and four cartridges from his possession.
Divulging details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said they got a tip-off that a drug peddling gang was operative in the city. After getting information, the CIA staff in charge, along with a team, laid a trap near Sant Nagar railway crossing. The team saw a car bearing registration number PB08FE4237 coming from Ladowali Road.
“The CIA staff team signalled the driver to stop the car. During checking, the police recovered 200 grams of heroin, a pistol and four cartridges from the driver,” he said.
He said the suspect had been identified as Kunal, a resident of Golden Colony, Deep Nagar, Jalandhar.
“A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at the New Baradari police station,” the CP said.
He said the suspect had a criminal background. A case under Sections 323, 324, 451, 427, 148, 149 and 307 of the IPC was already registered against him at the Cantonment police station. Further investigations were on in the case.
