Drug trafficker held with 50gm heroin

In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Jalandhar (Rural) police have apprehended a notorious drug peddler and seized 50 grams of heroin from him during a special operation conducted in the Kartarpur area.

The arrested accused has been identified as Baldev Singh, alias Ballo, a resident of Jagatpura village falling under the Jhabal police station in Tarn Taran district.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said acting on specific inputs, a special team of the CIA staff, Jalandhar (Rural), under SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur and DSP (Investigation) Sarvanjit Singh conducted the operation near the Kishangarh link road.

Inspector Pushap Bali, leading the operation with Sub-Inspector Nirmal Singh, intercepted the accused, who was spotted driving white TVS Apache motorcycle (bearing registration number PB02-DD-3473). Upon thorough search, the team recovered 50 grams of heroin concealed under the motorcycle’s seat in a wax-sealed envelope.

The SSP said the accused had a history of involvement in drug trade and liquor smuggling. A previous case under Sections 21B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against him at Fatehgarh Churiya police station in Batala district in June 2023, for which he served two months in jail before securing bail, he said.

The police registered a fresh case under Sections 21B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Kartarpur police station against the accused in this connection. The accused would be produced before a court to secure police remand for further investigation, the SSP said. He said the police were conducting a thorough probe to trace the source of the contraband and identify potential buyers. Besides, a detailed examination of the accused’s movable and immovable assets was underway, the SSP added.
