Eid: Spreading message of harmony

Sidhupur village in the Shahkot sub-division showcased the spirit of togetherness as people from all communities united to celebrate Eid, spreading a message of harmony.

A langar was organised at the local masjid, which was built in 1993. Since then, the festival has been celebrated with great enthusiasm by everyone in the village, regardless of their faith.

Mukhtiar Mohamad Malik, a 68-year-old retired secretary from the cooperative society, said some Muslim families in Sidhupur remained in the village during the partition. “Some of my family members left for Pakistan, but my father, paternal uncle and aunt stayed here. We’ve lived together happily ever since,” he explained. He added there are around 800 Muslim voters in the Shahkot sub-division.

Kulwinder Singh, district president of the Democratic Teacher Front and a resident of Sidhupur, also attended the celebrations. “For years, they’ve invited us to share in their special day. It’s wonderful to celebrate all festivals together. We are all one family,” he said.

He mentioned Sikh, Muslim and Hindu communities gathered that morning to honour the shared celebrations of Eid.

In nearby Kang Kalan village, located in the Lohian block of Jalandhar, a newly constructed masjid also hosted namaz for the occasion.
