Eight juveniles held with 5 snatched cellphones, 2 vehicles

In a resolute stride to clamp down on crime, the Commissionerate Police arrested eight individuals involved in multiple snatching incidents and recovered snatched items along with weapons used in the crime.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Dhanpreet Kaur said a police team was stationed at Kachehri Chowk as part of a routine search for criminal elements. During this, the police team received a tip-off about a group of eight juveniles involved in a series of thefts and snatchings. The group had recently snatched a mobile phone from a local, while threatening him with a cleaver. The group was reportedly moving ahead to carry out another snatching.

Acting swiftly on the information, the police team reached the location and apprehended eight individuals. An FIR was registered under Sections 303(2), 304(2), 305, 308(2), 317(2), 191(3), 190 and 3(5) of the BNS Navi Baradari police station against the eight accused. The police recovered five mobile phones, one Splendor motorcycle, one Activa scooter, one air pistol and three sharp weapons from the accused.

The CP said a team of the police station Division No. 4 had investigated a series of cases and traced multiple suspects involved in different crimes. These cases included an FIR registered under Sections 304 and 3(5) of the BNS. An investigation began after a complaint from Mohinderpal Singh, who reported that two individuals on a motorcycle snatched his wife’s gold earrings near KV Market. Another case was registered when Gurpreet Goriya was attacked by five individuals near Ratan Cinema. The third case pertained to an attack on person identified as Sagar outside the Civil Hospital.

The CP urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities on the helpline number 112 or at the nearest police station.
