A former engineer couple from Jalandhar has emerged as a social media singing sensation. Jaspreet Kaur (37), who earlier served as a scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Dehradun and her husband Gurpreet Singh (38), a former hydropower engineer from Shimla, are now widely known as ‘The Tuneful Couple’ on Instagram.

The couple has garnered a following of 4.25 lakh music lovers on the platform. Their melodious performances—shared regularly through self-recorded videos, have earned them popularity and praise from across the globe.

Jaspreet has been a ghazal and Gurbani singer since her schooldays at Swami Sant Dass Public School, Jalandhar. From inter-school competitions to youth festivals during her student life at Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, she has always been a consistent gold medallist. Gurpreet, also an NIT graduate, says he has always had a deep love for music but had never performed publicly until recently.

“Our Instagram music journey began on the evening of January 16, 2023, while we were returning from a marriage ceremony. On our way home, I told Gurpreet I wanted to restart my musical journey, which I had left behind 18 years ago due to the demands of work, children, home and business. Now that life had settled into a routine, we decided to launch an Instagram page,” shared Jaspreet.

“We initially wanted to name it ‘The Musical Couple’, but since it was already taken, we chose ‘The Tuneful Couple’. Dressed up from the wedding, we recorded our first video—‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’—on selfie mode, without a mic or preparation and posted it. To our surprise, we gained 3,000 followers overnight. That response inspired us to begin a new musical chapter.”

The couple, known for their elegant attire in both traditional and Western outfits themed to their songs, perform a mix of old Hindi melodies, Gurbani hymns, Punjabi chartbusters, Himachali folk songs, and songs themed around festivals like Rakshabandhan. Remarkably, despite their growing popularity, they continue to manage everything on their own.

“We handle our Instagram page ourselves. We try to respond to as many DMs as we can. We record using a tripod and a professional mic and sometimes take help from our son’s music teacher to set the scale for background music,” Gurpreet added.

Their fan base includes Bollywood celebrities like Simi Garewal, Shabana Azmi, Rakesh Roshan, Pinkie Roshan and Karan Johar, all of whom have commented on their posts. Several film directors and producers are among their followers, and the duo has even recorded two songs with Saregama.

Yet, the couple has chosen not to monetise their content. “God has been kind. We run a paint factory here. For seven years after our marriage, we continued with our jobs in distant locations. With two sons and extensive travel, it was challenging. Then came a sudden jolt—the passing of my mother. It was the biggest trauma of my life. That day, I realised how uncertain life is and we decided not to waste any more time living apart. I quit my job and joined the family business. My father-in-law Surinder Singh was extremely supportive. He retired that very day and offered to look after the home and children with my mother-in-law, allowing us to focus on the factory,” Jaspreet recounted.

Surinder Singh (71), a huge fan of Mohammad Rafi, often features in their videos and plays a pivotal role in their musical journey. The musical spirit extends throughout the family. “Our elder son Agassi and younger son Sammar also participate. Sammar sings, while Agassi plays instruments like the piano and guitar. My mother-in-law, Manjit Kaur, doesn’t sing, but she ensures our lyrics are perfect and enjoys every shoot,” said Jaspreet. “More than just offering soulful music, we aim to bring families together, spread positivity and share good values with our followers.”

Jaspreet regularly shares videos offering couple goals, relationship tips, and advice on strengthening family bonds. She and Gurpreet are often seen singing hand-in-hand, gazing into each other’s eyes, while their father Surinder lovingly blesses them from the sofa as they sit before him. Indeed, they are a made-for-each-other, tuneful couple.
