To celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and to mark the 100 years of Jallianwala Bagh massacre, ‘Sahitya Darshan and Book Exhibition’ was conducted on the premises of Vidya Dham, Jalandhar.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma attended the function as the chief guest with Sunil Thakur Principal Manager, BSNL, as the special guest. The DC expressed his views saying the Indians narrate stories without knowing the reference book of source.

“Although the Internet nowadays is the dominant source of information but it is also an instrument of deviation and distraction if the reader is not focused,” he added.

Varjeet Walia appreciated the launch of book fair saying that books are not only a source of knowledge but also create mental stimulators. Sunil Thakur said: “The books are more dependable as compared to internet because internet is like a source of fast food whereas the books have the motherly touch in preparation of food. Moreover the book writer analyses the facts whereas we have to be vigilant over whatever is provided to us on the net.” Narinder Sharma, chief, publication, informed that in this eleventh book fair more than 50,000 books are available on autobiographies, child literature, religion, science and Punjabi literature.

Vijay Nadda, organising secretary, north zone, Vidya Bharti, and Honey Sangar, secretary, accompanied the chief guest to different book stalls. Vijay Thakur, admin officer also appreciated the hardwork by the students and staff in making the fair possible and requested the congregation to spread the information to all known to them to visit the fair.
