In a major step to support the thousands of devotees arriving for the ongoing Mata Chintpurni Shravan Navratra Mela, Indian Railways has implemented a series of special measures at Hoshiarpur railway station and on key train routes.
To accommodate the influx of pilgrims from across Punjab and neighbouring states, the number of coaches on several trains between Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur has been increased. A total of seven trains have been allotted three additional coaches each, while the afternoon service now runs with four extra coaches, ensuring smoother and more comfortable travel for devotees.
The Railways has also set up a dedicated first aid post at Hoshiarpur station to respond to any medical emergencies among the arriving passengers. In addition, an ambulance has been stationed at the site to provide immediate medical assistance if required.
Adding to the atmosphere of service, a 24x7 langar (community kitchen) has been organised just outside the station premises. This initiative, led by a local NGO in collaboration with Indian Railways, is providing free food to devotees around the clock.
Dr Raman Ghai, member of the Railway Users Committee, Ferozepur Division, expressed his appreciation towards the Divisional Railway Manager of Northern Railway, Ferozepur Division. He praised the swift and thoughtful response of the authorities in ensuring a smooth and safe journey for pilgrims. “The addition of coaches and support facilities reflects the Railways’ commitment to serving the public, especially during festivals of spiritual importance,” Dr Ghai stated.
These enhanced arrangements are expected to alleviate travel challenges and accommodate the large number of pilgrims attending the Navratra celebrations at the revered Mata Chintpurni shrine.
