Farmer shoots himself, dies

Phagwara: A farmer reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a licensed revolver at his house on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Jasbir Singh of Nangal Majha village in the Phagwara subdivision. Family members of the victim told the police that Jasbir came to the house late in on Thursday evening and went to his room upstairs. Later, they rushed to his room after hearing the sound of a gunshot. The deceased sustained bullet injuries on his head and died on the spot. The exact cause of the suicide has not been ascertained yet. Stress could be the cause behind the extreme step, the police said. The police have registered a case and sent the body to the local Civil Hospital for autopsy. oc

17-yr-old girl ends her life

Phagwara: A 17-year-old girl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan at her residence in nearby Jagatpur-Jattan village on Friday evening. The deceased has been identified as Nisha Rani. Depression was said to be the cause behind the extreme step, the police said. The victim was residing with her sister Jannat as their parents were at present residing abroad. The police have registered a case and sent the body to the local Civil Hospital for autopsy. oc

Trucker killed by armed miscreants

Phillaur: A truck driver, identified as Jorawar Singh of Rasulpur village in the Phillaur subdivision, was reportedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons by unknown assailants near Ghail Majra village on the Gosla-Rasulpur village road on Friday night. The deceased was returning to his village after attending a marriage function at Gosla village on a bike when the miscreants came in a vehicle and killed him. The police have registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC and handed over the body to the family after autopsy on Friday. oc

Agent booked for Rs 5.50-L fraud

Nakodar: The police have booked a fake travel agent, identified as Lashkar Ram, a resident of Nattan village, near Nurmahal, under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC for allegedly duping Jaspal Sehjal, a resident of Nakodar village, of Rs 5.50 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. The victim told the police that the suspect neither send him abroad nor returned the money. The police are investigating the matter. oc

Youth held for kidnapping girl

Nakodar: The police on Saturday arrested a youth on the charge of kidnapping a minor. The IO, Lovelin Kumar, said the suspect had been identified as Jatindar Singh of Nathu Chahal village in Kapurthala. Sohan Singh, a resident of Kulaar village, complained to the police that the suspect kidnapped his minor daughter. The IO said a case under Sections 363 and 366-A of the IPC was registered against the suspect. oc
