Jalandhar, August 1
State vice-president of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Jasbir Singh Piddi led a protest against the Centre and the Haryana Government outside the DC office in Jalandhar and burnt their effigies.
Farmers protested against the Haryana Government’s recommendation of gallantry award to state policemen.
Issuing a press statement, Piddi said everyone knew that during the Dilli Chalo stir, the government persecuted farm workers and used tear gas shells on them. Bullets, rubber and plastic pellets were fired on them, leading to the death of farmer Shubh Karan and injury of hundreds of farmers.
The leaders said the Haryana Government was recommending the names of the policemen, who committed the atrocities on farmers, for the gallantry award to be conferred by the President.
They said on August 15, farmers and labourers would hold a tractor march to warn the government that either the government accept farmers’ demands or be ready to face struggle.
