Farmers to celebrate Gurpurb at Shambhu
The Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) Doaba has urged its circle and district block presidents to prepare for the grand celebration of Guru Gobind Singh’s Gurpurb on January 6 at the Shambhu border.
A 500-strong farmer caravan will travel to the Shambhu border for the event as the union plans a commemoration of the Guru’s birth anniversary. BKU Doaba president Manjit Singh Rai and general secretary Satnam Singh Sahni yesterday called on farmers to rally for the occasion. They stated that starting at 7 am on January 6, caravans of farmers would begin their journey to the Shambhu border. Each circle is expected to send at least four vehicles to join the procession.
In line with the call from farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, the morcha leaders have been working to ensure massive participation from various farm organisations. The event is aimed not only to celebrate the Gurpurb but also to reinforce support for the farmers’ ongoing demands from the state government.
To facilitate the event, all farmer organisations have been tasked with organising large cavalcades for the celebration. The BKU Doaba will depart in a caravan of 500 farmers and requests participants to gather at the Ladowal Toll Plaza in Phillaur at 7 am on January 6, from where they will proceed in their respective circles to Shambhu border.
