Several criminal cases were already registered against the three accused at various police stations, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Major Singh while addressing a press conference at the Police Lines here today. Dasuya DSP Balwinder Singh Jaura and SHO Prabhjot Kaur were also present at the press conference.
The SP said on February 1, dead body was found from the jungle of Budho Barkat village. After a video of the body went viral on social media, the police discovered that NRI Balwinder Singh, son of Nanak Singh, a resident of Bakarpur village in Kapurthala district, had been murdered. The victim’s wife Surinder Kaur told the police in her complaint that her husband had come from Spain while she was living with her son in Canada.
She stated to the police that her husband told her that he had struck a deal for the purchase of land and deposited Rs 2.80 lakh in the account of Ramesh Kumar and his son Narinderpal, alias Nindi, residents of Pasi Bet village of Dasuya. But now the duo were backing out from getting the land registered in his name. She said her husband left home on January 21 on a bike to meet the father, son duo, but did not return. When she called her husband, his phone was switched off.
On receiving no information about her husband, Surinder Kaur’s nephew filed a missing report at the Bholath police station on January 27. Surinder Kaur said on February 1, former sarpanch of Galowal village Lakhwinder Singh informed her that a dead body was found in the jungle of Budho Barkat village. She said after this, the body was identified as that of her husband. Surinder Kaur said there were injury marks on her husband’s body. She alleged that Ramesh Kumar and his son Narinderpal allegedly killed her husband to grab money taken from him for selling their land.
SP Major Singh said SSP Surendra Lamba formed a special team to solve the case. After investigation, the police team arrested accused Ramesh Kumar and his son Narinderpal on February 3 and brought them on three-day remand for interrogation. During interrogation, the accused told the police that after murdering Balwinder Singh, Yoga Singh, a resident of Argowal village, helped them in disposing of the victim’s body on their instructions.
SP Major Singh said on disclosure of the accused, an iron axe used for murdering the victim, had been recovered. He said the bike and purse of the victim were yet to be recovered. He said further remand of the accused would be sought to find more information about the NRI’s murder.
