Development works worth Rs5.30 crore were passed during a Finance and Corporation Committee (F&CC) meeting here on Friday. However, the proposal for the maintenance of street lights was not passed. Besides, the MC gave nod to the installation of CCTV cameras at sewage treatment plants (STPs).
After the monitoring committee of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) asked the civic body to install CCTV cameras at the STPs so that monitoring could be done directly, a proposal in this regard was tabled. An estimate amount of Rs86 lakh has been kept for the project.
Six STPs are functioning in the city — Pholriwal (100 MLD), Pholriwal (25 MLD), Basti Peerdaad (25 MLD), Jaitewali (25 MLD) and Bameawali (25 MLD).
The MC General House meeting will be held on December 24. A total of 28 points agenda will be discussed at the meeting. The Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar is likely to get the open defecation free (ODF++) status at the meeting. The status will be given if Individual House Hold Laterines (IHHLs) are complete and adequate number of public toilets is constructed.
According to one of the agendas, the IHHLs and public toilets have been constructed according to the requirement.
In another agenda, councillors have demanded a hike in the maintenance grant from Rs10 lakh to Rs20 lakh.
At the last General House meeting, councillors had proposed to increase their dearness allowance from Rs15,000 to Rs50,000. Besides, there was a proposal for pension to the councillors. They had said it was not only difficult to run their own homes, but also impossible to maintain and run their respective offices with the current amount they are getting.
