Mahilpur town was thrown into panic on Saturday morning when two unidentified youths on a motorcycle opened fire at Ganpati Jewellers, located on Jejon Road-Shaheeda Gurdwara Road, before fleeing towards Hoshiarpur.
The incident occurred around 9.45 am when the assailants, wearing helmets, stopped their motorcycle in front of the jewellery shop and fired multiple rounds. One bullet struck the ceiling inside the shop, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. At the time, two workers were present; one standing near the door narrowly escaped harm.
On receiving the report, DSP Garhshankar SHO and ASI arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. The entire incident was recorded by CCTV cameras installed outside the shop.
Shop owner Ravi Bagga, who was at home during the incident, denied any personal enmity with anyone. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the attackers.
The firing has heightened fear among local traders, marking the fourth such incident in the Garhshankar area in the last ten days.
