Panic gripped the Model Town in the wee hours on Saturday when two masked assailants opened fire at the residence of an NRI social media influencer, Simran Sikand, aka Sam. The assailants fired two rounds at his gate and fled the spot.
The incident took place at 12.38 am when the two miscreants arrived outside the house on a motorcycle. While one remained seated on the bike, the other fired shots at the house before fleeing.
The act was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the residence.
Speaking to mediapersons, Sikand said the footage clearly showed the masked attackers. He added that his family had received threats of a grenade attack from Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti.
Following the threat, the police had deployed two guards for their security. However, the guard on night duty was physically challanged and could not respond quickly to the attackers or chase them.
Sikand alleged that he got frequent threat calls and he and his family members had been attacked six-seven times. Despite repeated requests, the police were not serious about their security, he lamented.
He said he had reported the name of the suspects who might be behind the attack to the police.
Investigation Officer Dipankar Singh said an FIR had been lodged and efforts were on to nab the culprits.
