Five arrested for ‘outraging religious sentiments’ of villager

The Lohian Khas police have arrested five villagers on the charge of intending to insult the religious sentimentsof a person.

Investigating officer (IO) Balvir Singh said that the accused had been identified as Gurmail Singh, his brother Paramvir Singh, Harman Singh, Jaskaran Singh and Sandip Singh, all residents of Kakarr Kalan village

Bhupindar Singh, a resident of the same village, had complained to the police that the sarpanch’s husband called him up on November 10 morning and asked him to attend a public meeting.

The complainant said when he reached there, the accused questioned his presence by badmouthing his caste and attacked him. They even removed his turban, pulled his hair and dragged him by grabbing his beard, insulting his religious feelings as he was a baptised Sikh.

The IO said a case under Sections 298 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 190 (unlawful assembly) of the BNS was registered against the accused.
