Five arrested for shooting at woman in Kapurthala

In a swift action, Kapurthala police arrested five men who allegedly shot at a woman with the intent to kill her on Thursday. The incident took place when the victim, Manpreet Kaur, was travelling with her daughter on a scooter towards Baba Jhote Shah Bypass.

According to police, the accused - Suraj Thapar, son of Harbans Lal; Krish Lahoria, son of Naresh Kumar; Harmandeep alias Bhandal, son of Amarjeet Singh; Dev Darshan alias Chaar, son of Bharat Bhushan; and Anmol Kumar, son of Manmohan Kumar - surrounded the woman while riding on a Bullet motorcycle and a scooter, and opened fire at her.

The police team led by ASI Satnam Singh, under the supervision of Inspector Amandeep Kumar Nahar, SHO, City Police Station, Kapurthala, acted on information provided by a local resident. The operation was conducted under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kapurthala, Gaurav Tura, and SP (Headquarters) Sital Singh, as part of an ongoing campaign against anti-social elements in the district.

A case was registered in this connection. Acting promptly, the police traced the suspects to Jalandhar and arrested all five within hours of the incident. Police officials recovered a .30-bore pistol and five live cartridges believed to have been used in the attack.
